Bean Weavils as Reptile Food

Our bean weavils are the main staple of many invertebrate and amphibian diets. They are very small and hard to catch making them a great cleaner crew for larger reptiles. They can also be fed to very small amphibians and invertebrates in place of flies but will be a bit of a tougher meal. Our bean weavils are dispatched direct from the breeder and will be gut loaded before packing to make sure that they are as nutritious as possible on arrival.

Bean weavils are the perfect size for hatchling amphibians very small fish and juvenile insectivorous invertebrates (e.g. mantis and tarantulas). In store we use the bean weavils with our baby spiders, baby frogs, mantis and small dart frogs.

This product will be delivered in a plastic container. The bottom of the tub is covered in beans, eggs and larvae. Above substrate are egg box pieces or wood shavings to provide space for the weavils when they hatch. The sides of the plastic tub are perforated to provide maximum ventilation with minimum risk of escape. The colony usually hatches it's first generation within a few days of arriving and if kept properly more will hatch within a week or so.

Each order of livefood will also come with a free ProRep Jelly pot. The weavils will need some source of hydration soon after hatching. We have found that they don't do very well with open bodies of water so the jelly pot is an effective alternative. Simply put the jelly pot into your tub after a day or two of receiving the item.
